The recession has affected a lot of people and it is showing its impact on the travel industry as well. Many jobs are taking a hit with the recession in the economy. Many tire companies that have been around for numerous years are shutting down entirely; car manufacturers are taking a direct hit, similarly many other industries are bearing the brunt of current recession. Consumers are spending less money on travel because any additional money they are making is going towards the rising prices of gasoline. Because the consumers are cutting costs the travel industry has to find ways to be able to survive. This is causing the industry to cut jobs also.

Nevertheless jobs in travel industry offer a lot of perks. The top two jobs in the travel industry are those of a travel writer and a hotel inspector.

Travel jobs are known to be the most enjoyment oriented. People in the travel industry generally love their jobs. More than the pay it is the love for this kind of job that draws people to this industry. Travel jobs come with a lot of perks. The biggest perk of them all is that you get to travel and see the world and various sites of significant value. Most people do not have the opportunity to travel because they cannot afford it. Traveling for a living provides an amazing lifestyle for people who are inherently flexible.

One of the most favored jobs in the travel industry is that of a travel writer. The travel writer’s position offers total flexibility to go wherever you want to, whenever you want to. You can write about any location you want to and sell your work to interested magazines. You might also be sent out on projects where you don’t get to choose where you are going. The benefits of being a travel writer are huge because you have the opportunity to explore the world from your own point of view. Moreover, people are interested in reading what you have to say about the travel spot.

There are several pros and cons of being a travel writer. The biggest pro is that you can write off on your taxes most of your expenses related to travel. If you are being sent to a location by a business that is not willing to pay for the trip you usually have to pay for the cost of travel yourself. All of your expenses towards travel are costs of operating your business. You will write off the travel expenses for transportation, food, and hotel. You are also allowed to buy a laptop every two years and claim the expense on your taxes. After operational expenses you might make roughly $15,000 to $40,000 a year. Unless you work for a business with a set salary the pay is never guaranteed.

The biggest setback of being a travel writer is that you are never settled. If you have a family at home and you don’t want to spend a lot of time away from them then travel industry is not for you. A travel writing position is best for a single person who has no commitments to settle down and remain stable. This position may not bring you home for months at a time.

A luxury hotel inspector is another amazing travel industry job that you might consider. This position again requires you to spend a lot of time away from home. As an inspector you need to verify that hotels are providing top quality services and are meeting the required standards of a luxury hotel.

The biggest benefit of being a luxury hotel inspector is that the hotels will go all out to please you. Hotels compete with other hotels and every hotel wants a top rating. When they know you are the inspector they will provide nothing but top quality service and treat you like a movie star. You will have the ultimate service from the staff of the hotel, and you will be guaranteed an amazing stay as you inspect the premises. You are most likely to be granted one of the best rooms in the hotel, possibly a suite and be treated as if you are on an exclusive getaway. Any perk reserved for a hotel guest is likely to be given to you as well. As a luxury hotel inspector you will be treated like a star. You will get to stay at some of the most amazing resorts you have ever seen. You will feel like you are living in the lap of luxury as if you were rich and famous.

The downside of being a hotel inspector is that you are living out of a suitcase for your profession. This job requires a person who is okay with a lot of travel away from the home and the family.

Travel writer and luxury hotel inspector are the two positions in the travel industry that offer the biggest perks. It is important to remember that if you want to work in the travel industry you need to be flexible with your lifestyle. You will not spend a lot of time at home and this can be very hard on the family.

Working in the travel industry as a writer or a luxury hotel inspector can be very interesting. People don’t get the opportunity to travel a lot when they work in other industries because of lack of money and time. If you love to travel and see new places you might consider working in the travel field. You will be able to go to new places you have never been to and you can live an adventurous life as well. In addition, most of the expenses you don’t have to pay for because your job will cover the costs of traveling around the world.
