: The chair is the chief administrative officer of the department and is responsible for the general direction and supervision of the department. Degrees offered include a master's degree in economic development and undergraduate degrees in casino, hospitality and tourism management. The department also offers two certificate programs in economic development and casino management.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The department chair is responsible for the preparation and administration of the department budgets and for making appropriate recommendations to the dean regarding personnel needs. The chair is involved in determining education policy, such as establishing curricula, schedules, department majors and graduation requirements. The chair is directly responsible for developing department faculty to be successful in the teaching, research and service missions of the university. The department chair reports directly to the dean.
Qualifications and Experience:
A terminal degree in economic development, tourism or related field and eligibility for appointment at the rank of associate professor or professor
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
A minimum of three years of teaching and two years of experience in a leadership position
Salary and appointment to associate professor or professor will be commensurate with qualifications and experience appropriate for that rank. A terminal degree in economic development, tourism or related business discipline is preferred, as well as demonstrated leadership skills and commitment to scholarship and teaching. It is also preferred that the candidate have four or more years of administrative experience, ability to collaborate with multiple constituencies in the university and business communities, and credentials for the appointment at the rank of full professor.
