The Los Angeles City Council voted Friday to avoid 93 clerk and secretarial layoffs in the L.A. Police Department that had been scheduled to take place on December 31st. The vote allows the positions to be maintained until at least the 1st of July, 2013. Police officials said that they had found roughly $3 million in savings, due to the retirement of more police officers than expected in recent months; enough money to keep the 93 administrative personnel at work.
