Customer Service Travel Agent Jobs

Customer service travel agents are responsible for handling customer enquiries, the aim being: converting enquiries into sales, ensuring proper service support to customers, and collection of outstanding dues and cash.

Customer service travel agents assess individual's and business people's needs to help them make the best possible travel arrangements. An agent may specialize by type of travel or destination. Customer service travel agents also promote travel packages on behalf of cruise lines, resorts, and specialty travel groups.

The typical duties and responsibilities of customer service travel agents include: planning and selling transportation and accommodations for travel agency customers; determining destination, modes of transportation, travel dates, costs, and accommodations required; collecting payment for transportation and accommodations from customer; conversing with customer to determine destination, mode of transportation, travel dates, financial considerations, and accommodations required; computing cost of travel and accommodations; booking transportation and hotel reservations; planning, describing, arranging, and selling itinerary tour packages and promotional travel incentives offered by various travel carriers; providing customer with brochures and publications containing travel information, such as local customs, points of interest, or foreign country regulations; and printing or requesting transportation carrier tickets.

In addition to sound clerical knowledge, customer service travel agents are required to have good knowledge of customer and personal service, geography, sales and marketing, and transportation.

Good customer service travel agents demonstrate the following essential skills: active listening, problem solving, service orientation, speech clarity, time management, social perceptiveness, coordination, active learning, mathematics, and oral and written comprehension and expression.
