Sports Travel Jobs
Sports travel involves arranging groups or individuals to travel to major sporting events. Sports travel agents will be responsible for all aspects of the travel right from booking flights and hotels to selling the trip.
Sports travel agents assess an individual's or group's needs to help them make the best possible travel arrangements. An agent may specialize by type of sport, such as winter sport or summer sport, or destination such as Europe or Australia.
The typical duties and responsibilities of a sports travel agent include: planning and selling transportation and accommodations for customers; determining destination, modes of transportation, travel dates, costs, and accommodations required; booking small groups and sports equipment movements; collecting payment for transportation and accommodations from customer; conversing with customer to determine destination, mode of transportation, travel dates, financial considerations, and accommodations required; computing cost of travel and accommodations; booking transportation and hotel reservations; planning, describing, arranging, and selling itinerary tour packages and promotional travel incentives offered by various travel carriers; providing customer with brochures and publications containing travel information, such as local customs, points of interest, or foreign country regulations; and printing or requesting transportation carrier tickets.
Good sports travel agents have an interest in and knowledge of summer sports, winter sports, and adventure sports such as sailing, diving, mountain biking, hiking, white water rafting etc. They also demonstrate essential skills such as: active listening, problem solving, service orientation, speech clarity, time management, social perceptiveness, coordination, active learning, mathematics, and oral and written comprehension and expression.
