Travel Counselor Jobs
Travel counselors research options for their clients' travel needs. They coordinate travel arrangements and provide information on the destinations visited. They also advise their clients on travel entry requirements and health information. When travel counselors do not engage in direct client interaction, they visit various destinations, so that later, they can make personal recommendations and provide insights to clients, on what to expect when traveling to these areas.
The best part about being a travel counselor is the variety of the job; each client interaction and transaction provides a new experience, about making someone's dream trip a reality. The job also provides the opportunity to take unusual trips.
Travel counselors work to help smooth out the bumps in the road for their clients. The typical challenges that they face are: airline schedules and fares change, natural disasters, political problems, and vendors' operational problems.
To perform the job, travel counselors need to possess: excellent customer service and sales skills, decisive and successful problem solving skills, a strong knowledge of geography – domestic and international destination knowledge, and a passion for detail. Patience, flexibility, and a good sense of humor are also required. Candidates must be self-motivated and must be able to work under pressure while having an orientation for quality sales.
