Travel Consultant Jobs

Travel consultants promote and sell holiday and/or business travel products direct to the public, usually from a retail outlet. Typical work activities of a travel consultant include: selling holiday and travel products to customers; meeting sales targets as set out by the travel agency manager; dealing with complicated customer itineraries; handling customer orders and payments; liaising with tour operators and other key partners such as hotels and airlines regarding bookings and schedules; and advising clients about passports, vaccinations, visas, foreign currency, travel insurance, car parking, car hire abroad and excursions in resorts.
Travel consultants also undertake general administration; deal with complaints; use and update IT skills, since information on holiday packages and bookings is usually accessed via a network; and organize displays of promotional material.
Travel consultants need to be outgoing and approachable, with excellent customer service skills. To perform the job, they need to possess: sales skills, decisive and successful problem solving skills, a strong knowledge of geography – domestic and international destination knowledge, and a passion for detail. Patience, flexibility, and a good sense of humor are also required. Travel consultants must also be self-motivated and must be able to work under pressure while having an orientation for quality sales.
