Travel Clerk Jobs description
Travel clerks assist travel coordinators in a company's travel needs. They rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Most travel clerks report to a supervisor or manager. Their primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment.The typical work activities of a travel clerk include: planning itinerary and schedules travel accommodations for clients according to travel orders; providing travel information and arranging accommodations for tourists; answering inquiries, offering suggestions, and providing descriptive literature pertaining to trips, excursions, sports events, concerts, and plays; discussing routes, time schedules, rates, and types of accommodations with patrons to determine preferences and makes reservations; verifying arrival and departure times; tracing routes on maps; and arranging for baggage handling and other services requested by guests.
Travel clerks may also: deliver personnel files and travel orders to persons prior to departure; meet and inform arriving personnel of available facilities and housing, and furnish other information; and arrange for motor transportation for arriving or departing personnel.
Travel clerks must be able to: give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times; talk to others to convey information effectively; use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems; and manage one's own time and the time of others well.
