The Smart Museum of Art seeks to train new docents (gallery educators) to be a part of the docent program. This position is available to University of Chicago students (undergraduates preferred) as well as Odyssey Project alumni and former Smart Museum Interpreters in Residence.
Participate in a paid training course exploring educational strategies for use in the Museum s galleries.
Serve as public ambassador for the Smart Museum.
Lead tours and facilitate art-making activities for a variety of audiences including K-12, university, and adult community groups.
Strong public speaking skills
High level interest in visual arts
Additional Information: Education, Experience or Certifications:
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Some college preferred
Required: Odyssey Program alumnus
Prior teaching experience (preferred)
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
Irregular work schedule
Ability to stand for up to 2 hours
Effective audio-visual discrimination and perception
