A report from the Associated General Contractors of America revealed about 1,600 construction jobs were lost in Kansas in September.
According to the study, construction jobs in Kansas fell from 62,700 in August to 61,100 in September. It was among 31 state to lose construction jobs last month.
Despite the negative news, it has been a positive year for the construction sector in Kansas. The state has gained 5,000 jobs as compared to this time last year and the percentage gain, 8.9 percent, trails only Oklahoma.
While things are looking up in Kansas, officials at Associated General Contractors warned employment will probably remain week for at least the next year.
“Construction firms are caught between a difficult present and an uncertain future,” said Ken Simonson, the association’s chief economist, in a release. “Looking ahead, nobody knows what will happen to the only thing keeping the current market from getting worse, federal spending, as long-term water, energy and transportation spending programs remain in limbo.”
