Troy, Michigan-based auto parts supplier ArvinMeritor is cutting about 10% of its work force at a plant in western North Carolina.
The firm announced that 47 hourly workers will be laid off at its truck axle plant in Fletcher. The cuts take effect Monday and will leave about 500 workers at the plant.
ArvinMeritor reported that its fiscal Q1 loss grew to almost $1 billion on significantly lower sales and millions of dollars in one-time charges.
ArvinMeritor, a Fortune 500 company, manufactures automobile components for light service vehicles, trucks, and trailers.
