Alcoa is cutting fewer jobs than expected at its Davenport Works plant in Iowa.

The aluminum producer and the United Steelworkers Union Local 105 announced finalized plans on Friday, and fewer workers are affected.

Alcoa originally announced it would cut 220 positions as part of a plan to reduce 13% of its global workforce. Layoffs will now affect only 125 workers.

Union President Skip McGill says another 72 workers have accepted a voluntary quit package, bringing the total number of employees to 197.

The layoffs will take effect March 2nd.

Alcoa announced earlier that it was eliminating 41 salaried jobs at its Davenport Works plant.
