Boeing has decided to shift production of its new Dreamliner 787 from Washington to South Carolina, taking work from union-represented employees in Washington and giving it to non-union employees in South Carolina. The National Labor Relations Board has filed a complaint against Boeing, claiming that the action punishes union workers for past strikes. Boeing claims that the decision is not punitive, and it cannot afford the disruptions to production of its new Dreamliner caused by possible union strikes. The issue has also caused a political debate on capitalism, labor, and the middle class.
