Local and State Government Layoffs are on the Way

State and local governments will be laying off many more employees as the new fiscal year starts July 1. States have budget gap problems, and federal stimulus money ends June 30. Local governments have been affected by the mortgage crisis, and property assessments are expected to go down. Teachers especially will be let go, and national July and August job numbers will be affected.
