On July 26th the United States Postal Service plans to provide the names of 3,653 post office locations that may be closed. A study will be done to determine which locations may actually be shut down. Determining factors will be those with a loss of foot traffic and the financial standing of each office. Most are located in cities or towns with lower populations. A potential back up plan for the closures is to replace the offices with alternative choices such as family owned businesses. The announcement to close these offices has not been unexpected due to monetary losses reported by the postal service of $8.5 billion in 2010.
