Microsoft Funded Research Claims 14 Million New Jobs from Cloud Computing By EmploymentCrossing  |  Dated: 03-05-2012

According to the findings of a study released by analyst firm IDC, cloud computing would generate 14 million new jobs worldwide by 2015. The study, funded by Microsoft also says that IT innovation in cloud computing would generate $1.1 trillion a year in business revenues.

Susan Hauser, the corporate vice president of Microsoft’s Worldwide Enterprise and Partner Group said “The cloud is going to have a huge impact on job creation … it’s a transformative technology that will drive down costs, spur innovation, and open up new jobs and skillsets across the globe.”

Carol Reid, sales director for Agile IT confirms, “We deployed Microsoft Office 365 and Windows Intune for one of our clients, and the comment we heard from the chief operations is that he can actually schedule a meeting with the IT director to talk about strategic applications.”

According to industry experts, cloud computing can free innovative managers from mundane IT jobs to mission-critical endeavors.

If even a quarter of that statistics talk reflects in reality, for those who have the chance to shift over in the direction of cloud computing employment opportunities should definitely start thinking in those lines.

In fact, even small businesses and single-person startups are now opting for cloud computing in place of traditional shared servers, because cloud computing is scalable, is usually pay as you go, and is much faster than traditionally web servers available at equivalent costs, even considering the performance of pure VPS and dedicated servers.

The CDN or content-delivery-network technology goes hand in hand with cloud computing and cloud servers with giants like Akamai, Amazon, and now Google offering services to the end consumer.

Cloud computing has radically changed the investment pattern of IT industries as high initial investment on hardware scheduled to be outdated within the year is no more a concern, the only concern is to open an account on a cloud server which can provide the processing power as you need.

According to the IDC study, of the 14 million new jobs that the cloud will generate between 2011 and 2015 the numbers would be split more or less equally between big and small businesses. This raises the prospect of local employment rising with the growth in cloud computing.

The three industries expected to offer highest employment in relation to cloud computing are media, banking, and manufacturing.

According to the study, the highest percentage of new jobs will occur in emerging markets like China and India which together are expected to produce about 6.8 million jobs. That still leaves around 7 million jobs for developed countries, where things would be coordinated.

According to the study, at least 1.2 million cloud-related jobs would be gained by U.S. by 2015.

What I liked about the service is that it had such a comprehensive collection of jobs! I was using a number of sites previously and this took up so much time, but in joining EmploymentCrossing, I was able to stop going from site to site and was able to find everything I needed on EmploymentCrossing.
