Employment Increases in July By jim  |  Dated: 08-29-2012

In La-Salle Parish, there was good news all around. The unemployment rate in the parish dropped to 5.6 percent during the month of July. Although the fact that the unemployment rate has decreased is good enough news on its own, the parish also managed to increase its employment, with a total of 100 individuals becoming employed within the span of one month, between June and July. This increase happened to be one of the largest increases to have occurred in any of the rural parishes within the entire state. After revisions, the unemployment rate for the parish was at 6.3 percent during the month of June. A total of around 7,020 individuals were employed while 473 of the individuals in the area were unemployed. The report for the month of July shows that the unemployment rate was considerably lower for the parish during the month of July and that a total of 7,120 people were employed during that month, meaning that 100 more people were employed within the span of just one month.

This was good news for the parish, especially since just one year ago during the same month of July, the unemployment rate was at 5.7 percent and there were around 409 people unemployed and actively seeking work. The unemployment figures were provided by the Louisiana Workforce Center, which is located in Baton Rouge. A review of the different parishes within the state showed that both LaSalle and Terrebonne took a tie for the ranking of third place with the lowest jobless rate within the state. There were two other parishes that had lower unemployment rates and those parishes were Lafourche at 5.2 percent and Lafayette with a 5.3 percent unemployment rate. LaSalle still managed to outnumber other parishes, including Caldwell, Franklin, Jackson and Winn.

A press released provided by the Louisiana Workforce Center shows that the seasonally adjusted jobless rate for the state of Louisiana was down to 7.9 percent during the month of July, a decline from 8.6 percent during the month of June. In the meantime, the national jobless rate for the nation as a whole had actually increased during the month of July to 8.6 percent from 8.4 percent during the previous month of June. It is expected that different areas in the state will have a small decline in their unemployment rates for the month of July when compared to the month before which is definitely good news. A decline in unemployment rates in the area means people are finding work that they have been seeking for quite a while now.
