Around 20 police officers will be laid off on January 1, 2013 in East Cleveland, Ohio. That means around 25 percent of the police force will be reduced. The layoffs are said to be necessary by Mayor Gary Norton who says that the city needs to reduce its police budget and its a necessity. The Fraternal Order of Police Union’s local branch has said that the layoffs will affect response times. The city had already laid off 36 police officers in 2011.
