Automaker GM has announced plans to hire 200 workers at its Baltimore, Maryland plant. GM will invest $246 million into a Baltimore transmission factory to make electric motors for a next-generation hybrid in 2013. The plant already makes transmissions for full-size truck hybrids like the Chevrolet Tahoe and Cadillac Escalade SUV.GM received a grant of $105 million from the Department of Energy for the expansion. The newly designed transmissions at the Baltimore plant will be smaller than those used in the full-size truck hybrids for use in smaller vehicles.
