43 Layoffs in Perrysburg, Ohio Schools

Layoff notices are going to be sent out to 9 teachers and 34 other employees at schools in Perrysburg, Ohio.A $3.1 million budget deficit is being faced for the 2010-2011 school year. Most of the losses to make up the deficit will occur at the high school and junior high levels.
The school board unanimously voted in favor of the cuts with a 5-0 decision.
“I feel my vote tonight is not for the good of the children,” said board member Gretchen Downs. “It is very, very heartbreaking, this decision.”
Board colleague Valerie Hovland sadly noted that the nationally recognized high school music program would be devastated with the loss of four teachers.
