NY Government Employees Prepare to Challenge Layoffs

In the latest round of a contentious war of words with the state government, Public Employees Federation President Ken Brynien announced his union’s intent to take the State of New York back to court if it goes through with a proposed plan to lay off 10,000 government workers. The layoff proposal was born out of a previous court case in which the union successfully prevented New York’s Governor Paterson from furloughing some 100,000 state workers. Brynien spoke in no uncertain terms regarding the new plan on Monday: “If he tries to lay people off, we’ll take him to court over that too.”
