The University of Texas Medical Branch announced Wednesday that it would lay off 363 people statewide. The University is trying to close an $82 million budget gap and the job cuts will save $22 million.
Job cuts will occur within the UTMB Correctional Managed Care program, which administers medical care throughout the Texas state prison system. The Correctional Managed Care Program will see its staff shrink by more than 10%.
Texas maintains the largest prison system in the United States, with more than 150,000 prisoners. As those prisoners have aged, medical costs have risen to their current levels, said UTMB president Dr. David L. Callender.
I was very pleased with the TravelingCrossing. I found a great position within a short amount of time … I definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a better opportunity.
