General Motors will cut more than 300 positions in its home state of Michigan by November. The recently bailed-out automaker will shut down their Powertrain Flint North facility, leaving 330 employees without jobs.

A spokesman for GM, Tom Wickham, sent an e-mail to The Flint Journal explaining the shut down:

“The layoffs will occur in November,” Tom Wickham said. “We currently have 480 Flint North employees. Of that number, 80 are already assigned to building the Volt and Cruze engines at Flint Engine South. Of the 400 remaining, 70 will transfer from Flint North to Flint Engine South in November, leaving 330 to be laid off.”

General Motors notified employees at the complex that they would terminate 85 percent of remaining production on November 1, while the remaining 15 percent would end November 19.

Some employees won’t be able to manage a switch from the Flint North complex to the Flint South one. Bill Jordan, president of the union for the affected employees, said that there were “jobs physically you can’t do if you’re 50” or older.
