Government Travel Jobs description

Government travel jobs include positions that service the domestic and international travel requests of various government departments. Individuals holding such posts require a good understanding of corporate or government travel systems and knowledge of government procurement polices and procedures. The ability to work as part of a small team and manage competing deadlines is essential.

Government travel involves: arranging travel bookings for all international departmental travel, including ensuring airfares, accommodation, and car hire; arranging passports, visas and calculating applicable travel allowances; providing advice and assistance on international travel matters to departmental staff as required; regularly monitoring international travel to ensure the Department receives best value for money in its travel; maintaining appropriate records of all overseas travel undertaken by departmental staff and providing regular reports of this; providing assistance in other areas of the travel team as required to ensure an efficient and responsive service is provided to the concerned government department.

An important aspect of government travel is working in close tandem with senior security personnel. At every step, security personnel need to be intimated about plans involving the movement of the department members.

Government travel executives need to have: the ability to work as part of a small team; good organization skills; the ability to meet deadlines; good interpersonal skills including strong oral and written communication, negotiation, liaison skills, and a commitment to client service. They are required to demonstrate personal commitment, awareness, and knowledge of the transport industry and its regulatory environment.
