Travel Director Jobs description
Travel directors are employed by corporate travel agencies. Their duties can run the gamut of pointing out the room in which a conference will be held to purchasing a personal aircraft in order to translocate a group. A travel director is also known as trip director, TD, or on-site meeting manager.A travel director accompanies his or her assigned group for the duration of a business trip. This includes tours, meals, and even meetings. He or she is responsible for all the trip-related itinerary, seat assignments, hotel preferences, gift requests, and handouts.
The position of a travel director can encompass various responsibilities. For a smaller program, such as a dinner meeting, just one travel director might be on site to serve as host. For a larger event, a range of travel directors — from the lead TD, with responsibility for the overall program, to specialists in various areas such as food and beverage, hospitality, or housing.
A travel director is the face of the company – representing its commitment to excellence and integrity. Because he/she is the person with whom attendees will interact, candidates must be enthusiastic and service-oriented. They must have experience in managing teams, computer skills, and be financial savvy. They must be able to focus on implementing programs. They must also be able to juggle many tasks at one time.
The ideal candidate will be: energetic, highly-motivated, organized, imaginative, widely traveled, passionate about culture and history, and fluent in English.
