First Solar Inc., based in Tempe, Arizona, is planning the building of two new production facilities, one in the U.S. and one in Vietnam. The domestic location will be Perrysburg, Ohio and is expected to create 600 jobs. The completion of the facility is expected by 2012.
The power producing capability of the company will double from the expansion, adding 500 megawatts to their annual manufacturing capacity.
“These expansions provide proximity to growing U.S. demand while supporting our roadmap to drive down the cost of clean, sustainable solar electricity,” said Rob Gillette, First Solar’s chief executive. “Effective government policies provide long-term visibility and enable sustainable markets.”
