Whirlpool Corp. has announced a suspension of its second-shift assembly operations in Marion, Michigan.
The suspension means a reduction of 400 temporary employees. Those employees were told last week of the cuts.
“These changes are based on what we know today,” said Jill Saletta, the director of external communications. “We evaluate our business on an ongoing basis, and must continually adjust to changing conditions including seasonality and consumer demand. We hope to recall these individuals as business improves but cannot predict when that might occur.”
The cuts do not include any salaried employees.
