Intel has unveiled a plan to expand their manufacturing facilities in Hillsboro, Oregon. The investment will range from $6 billion to $8 billion, create 6,000 to 8,000 construction jobs in the process, and establish 800 to 1,000 permanent jobs upon completion.
“Intel makes approximately 10 billion transistors per second. Our factories produce the most advanced computer technology in the world and these investments will create capacity for innovation we haven’t yet imagined,” said Brian Krzanich, Vice President of Intel.
Enabled by the proposed expansion, late next year is the target for Intel’s regular two-year upgrade cycle. This time around they will be using smaller, 22-nanometer circuitry to create their next wave of processors.
