Tribal Leaders Work to Create Jobs By Erik Even | Dated: 02-08-2009

Tribal leaders with the Bois Forte band of Chippewa are working to create jobs and increase opportunities on the Nett Lake reservation.

The tribe’s Fortune Bay $13 million resort expansion is complete, and the band is focusing on a new project: a $10 million dollar community and government services center in Nett Lake.

There will also be a new credit union or bank branch. The tribe plans to offer eligible band members a $1,200 loan to help them survive this year.

There are no plans for layoffs.

The members of the Minnesota Chippewa tribe will open a Native American Embassy - the first of it’s kind - in Minneapolis later this year.
