The Bay Area Hospital in Coos Bay, Oregon is undergoing an expansion project which will generate 90 new construction jobs.
“Hospitals in most rural communities are their largest employers,” said communications director for the Oregon Office of Rural Health, Bob Duehmig. “They’re the engines that drive the local economy. In addition to the construction jobs that go along with those expansions, you’re adding to the health care work force.”
The intention of the expansion is to offer additional privacy for patients as well as cater to the needs of outpatient care.
Although not expected to make a large dent in the local unemployment rate, the project is being hailed as a boon to the local economy.
