Heat Transfer Products Group, a California-based company that designs and manufactures heat transfer components and equipment for refrigeration applications, announced a plan to expand its operations in Scottsboro, Alabama. The company expects the expansion to require the hiring of an additional 120 workers in the plant. The company currently employs 319 workers in its manufacturing plant in Scottsboro Industrial Park. HTPG said that the news jobs will be added over a three year period.
Governor Bob Riley said that he is excited about the expansion plan since it will boost local employment and will help improve the quality of life in the state. “They could possibly go to 700-750 people here. If that happens in a town this size, all of a sudden you’ve changed the whole quality of life issue. It’s a quality of life that leaves room for improvement.” In November 2010, Scottsboro’s unemployment rate was 8.9%.
