Retail giant Wal-Mart will close its Macon, Georgia return center, cutting about 400 jobs.
The center will relocate near Spartanburg, South Carolina. The company says the relocation is not due to the economic meltdown, but because the distribution center was too far from some of the company’s Southeast region stores it was built to serve.
The state will provide assistance to employees who lose their jobs.
Wal-Mart Stores is a public corporation that runs a chain of large, discount department stores. It is the world’s largest public corporation by revenue, according to the 2008 Fortune Global 500.
