Showa Denko Carbon, a Japanese chemical engineering firm, will bring 100 more jobs to its South Carolina plant in Dorchester County.
According to the CEO of Showa Denko Carbon, Robert Whitten, the extra jobs reflects hundreds of millions of dollars of investment and will increase their local production by 68%.
The company produces graphite electrodes used by steel product manufacturers to power their operations.
Governor Nikki Haley expressed her satisfaction with the development. “Any time a company comes to South Carolina, it’s always hope and excitement. When a company expands in South Carolina it’s a celebration,” she said yesterday, at a press conference for the expansion of the company.
