Misubishi Electric has announced plans to build a headquarters and manufacturing plant in Memphis, Tennessee. In order to fill the space, the company will hire 275 people by the time the plant is at full capacity.
An official announcement from the company read, “It will open in the spring on 2013 with about 90 employees. We plan to employ 275 people when the plant is at full capacity. We expect to hire that majority of people right here in Memphis.”
The plant will manufacture transformers meant for use in power generating companies such as nuclear plants.
Brian Heery, CEO and President of Mitsubishi Electric, says “Bringing that material in requires good highways, rail, once you’ve built these and ship them out requires mostly rail and sometimes even water. So it makes Memphis unique.”
