Layoff News
Ben-Ezra & Katz, a law firm based in Fort Lauderdale, has laid off 236 employees.
The layoffs were confirmed on Monday, and are a result of Fannie Mae (also known as the Federal National Mortgage Association) ending its relationship with the firm.
The firm claims to be “surprised” by the sudden termination. In a press release, the firm says that “the issues leading to their action are things we discovered internally, then proactively informed Fannie Mae and created a plan to correct the problems.” Those problems, according to the firm, had to do with the correct original affidavits being attached to the each file.
While they claim they aren’t implicated in the David J. Stern “robo-signing” investigation, it seems that law firms will learn their lesson about rushing work the hard way.
