Iowa’s Department of Human Services will be cutting 5 percent of their positions, equating to a 236 job cuts.
According to officials at the department, half of the job cuts will not involve active workers, but by cutting currently vacant positions, as a hiring freeze has been adopted and will remain active indefinitely.
Among the positions cut include maintenance and social workers and amount to 79 layoffs. The result of these layoffs will include upping the caseloads for social workers as well as IM workers.
Additionally, cuts will be made to administrative positions, the child support recovery unit, resources centers, and juvenile facilities.
