Layoff News
Las Vegas based Allegiant Air, home of the $19 LA to Vegas specials, announced that it was laying off 165 ground support staff at McCarran Airport effective today. The low price airline has contracted with Airport Terminal Services to handle certain ground functions including customer service and airplane cleaning. The affected employees have been encouraged to apply for positions with ATS. No word as of yet how many new hires this will create for the St Louis based contractor. Employees will continue to receive their travel benefits for three months.
Las Vegas has been particularly hard hit by the recession and statewide unemployment continues to linger at over 14%.
