West Asset Management, an accounts receivable management company, announced that due to a major decrease in business from one of its clients it is laying off 163 people at its call center in Wausau, Wisconsin. 9 management and 154 hourly employees will be let go, effective May 2, unless the company finds a new client by that time.
The call center works will a financial services client to help people struggling with their mortgages, and most of the affected positions are customer service related. The call center opened in 2009 and added an additional 100 employees in March of last year, but according to the company it overstaffed based on the work that was available.
