The city of Compton, California is facing the decision of whether or not to lay off 100 employees in order to mitigate their $25 million general fund budget deficit. Even with such an extreme reduction in the workforce, the city would still have to look at other ways to function within it’s financial means. Other ideas include reorganizing all city departments in an effort to save money. Auditors’ reports indicate that there are several problem areas within the city budget that could have contributed to the current deficit.
