This article is about  the present condition of a indebted county named Jefferson county. The  county is in debt of about $3.2 billion and is preparing to layoff nearly  1000 workers as a part of a $14.5 million budget reduction.  This layoff  is because of the loss of about one-third of the county’s operating revenue  due to the supreme court ruling a jobs tax as unconstitutional. The county is  also recovering from the loss due to a tornado in April. County is  expecting a bill that would give the county the power to raise as much  as $50 million a year.
