1500 Philadelphia teacher layoffs remain on hold

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court in it Wednesday’s ruling urged Philadelphia School District to defend in Common Pleas Court its plan to lay off more than 1500 teachers. The Philadelphia Federation of Teachers sued the district challenging the official decision to exempt about 200 teachers from Promise Academies since these exemptions are against the teachers’ contract. The district has issued over 3,000 pink slips on June 6.
