Jefferson County, AL ~ Many officials are expressing disappointment as the County decreases expenditures. Although claims of 564 being laid off due to the failure of a levy and a home rule bill may be exaggerated, over half have already received pink slips. Attempts have been made – and some have succeeded – in cutting costs without reducing staff; but the layoffs and decreased services are expected to be permanent.
