Jefferson County is considering more layoffs to trim additional $2 million from the budget. Commissioner Jimmie Stephens said that he is expecting to fill in a $2 million gap in budget with additional revenue. In case if that doesn’t work additional layoffs can happen. Circuit Judge Scott Vowell said that if required money doesn’t come in, all criminal courts in the county will have to be closed on Monday. Vowell has requested a $144000 from commissioners to postpose the closing of courthouses and keep operations running through the end of this fiscal year.
