Nokia has come to an agreement with the staff of its integral Salo, Finland plant. Employees with experience a shorter-than-expected set of temporary layoffs.
“Temporary layoffs (will) last on average five weeks. Depending on the units, they vary from 3 to 7 weeks,” a Nokia spokesman said.
On Febrary 11, Nokia said it would lay off the entire staff on rotation for up to 12 weeks as part of a plan to lower costs by $892 million.
“The plant will continue to work without stoppages,” the spokesman said.
The plant at Salo is the last handset factory in all of Western Europe, after Nokia closed a plant in Bochum, Germany a year ago.
