The Walters Art Museum, located in Baltimore, Maryland, has joined the recent litter of art museums that have had to tighten their financial belt through cost-reducing measures and job cuts.
On Thursday, the museum announced that it had laid off seven employees and done away with nine unfilled positions. For the remaining staff, the museum plans to implement a salary freeze and staff furloughs. It will also instate a selective hiring freeze.
The museum has been forcer to cancel exhibitions with the Musée d’Orsay in Paris and the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles. Additionally, the museum said it would close its Hackerman House annex on weekdays.
