The Columbia Gas Transmission Corporation announced this morning that is plans to lay off 170 workers in West Virginia as part of a restructuring plan from the parent company of Columbia, Houston-based Nisource Gas Transmission and Storage.
Most of the laid off employees will come from Columbia’s Kanawha City facility. 95 of the 300 workers at that location are expected to lose their jobs. The remaining 75 workers will come from different field locations in West Virginia.
According to a statement released by Nisource Friday morning: “the company expects to reduce its overall staffing by approximately 370 to 380 positions across its 16-state operating territory during the course of 2009. Eligible employees will be offered a competitive severance package and outplacement assistance. Certain employee groups will be eligible for voluntary severance.”
