Alpine School District Could Layoff Teachers

Alpine district which is facing a fiscal deficit of $1.25 million is working on a formula to avoid serving layoff notices to seventeen teachers next week. District officials will ask the members of the teachers union to agree to a 5 percent cut in pay and health benefits to avoid serving the layoff notice. The proposed pay cuts would save them $1.3 million and will help the employees to remain.
