President Barack Obama created a jobs bill that would create new jobs across the country in an effort to jump start the country’s still struggling economy. Obama was in Pittsburgh on Tuesday campaigning for Congress to pass his legislation and then he attended political rallies in Florida later in the day for the same purpose all while waiting for word from the United States Senate on whether or not the bill would pass. The bill had already passed in the House of Representatives but once the voting was complete on Tuesday, the Senate had voted against the legislation created by the Obama administration.

The legislation called for $447 billion in job aid to the country and was voted in favor of advancing it further by a 50-49 vote in the Senate. The reason the legislation did not pass is the fact that the Senate needed 60 votes to pass the bill. Obama vows that the fight for the legislation will not end with the Senate’s Tuesday vote.

“Tonight’s vote is by no means the end of this fight. We will move this plan piecemeal as soon as possible.”

Obama vowed to place votes on the Republicans in Congress that will force them to vote against middle class citizens who the jobs bill would benefit.

“With so many Americans out of work and so many families struggling, we can’t take ‘no’ for an answer. Ultimately, the American people won’t take ‘no’ for an answer.”

Two Democrats in the Senate decided to vote against the legislation, one Republican in the Senate decided not to vote, and Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid voted against the legislation. Reid purposely voted against the legislation in an effort to bring up discussion about the bill at any time down the road. Obama has been campaigning for the passage of this bill in an effort to lower the 9.1 percent unemployment rate, shield the United States economic recovery from the threat of a European debt contagion, and boost the growth of the economy.

United States Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner warned the Republicans who voted against the legislation that they could be hurting the country, possibly tipping it into another recession, if they continue to reject the plans outlined by the White House.

“Absolutely. If Congress does not act, it will be because Republicans decided they did not want to do anything to help the economy. Growth will be weaker…people will be out of work. If the bill is not passed, we will put off the important challenges. That is not something we should do.”

Politicians opposed to this bill are worried that Obama is using it specifically for his re-election campaign that will be voted on in November of 2012. Those in favor of the bill feel that Obama created it strictly to help the suffering economy.
