With an undergraduate’s degree and at least four years of work-related experience in the health care field, you can apply to complete a physician assistant program to become certified. With health care reform and the increasing population of elderly baby boomers, the health care system will grow in need of physician assistants over the next few years. As a physician assistant you will assist doctors in tests, physicals, counseling with patients and prescribing medication.

As a physician’s assistant you will avoid the high cost of medical school and the pain of the long hours of an internship. You will also have a greater freedom to transition into different specialties if you desire. Yet, as a physician assistant you still get all of the satisfaction of delivering care to those in need.

Working in the scientific research sector as a biomedical engineer you will develop and design medical treatments procedures and devices. One day you may work on a new type of drug delivery system, and another day you may work on designing an artificial heart. With the aging population, the development of new medical technologies has made this one of the fastest growing professions within the nation.

Although the field only has 20,000 jobs right now, it is expected to grow at an exponential rate over the course of the next decade. In order to enter into this field you will need an undergraduate degree in electrical, chemical, or mechanical engineering. A background in biology will also be beneficial to landing a job in this profession, though some biomedical engineers learned biology through on-the-job training.

These engineers troubleshoots, plans, designs and oversees the maintenance and construction of these networks. Networks can include needs for voice, data, and video communication.

Applications Engineer

In the ever-growing popularity of the Internet, applications engineers will become in-demand more than ever during the next decade. As an applications engineer you will develop and modify computer programs. These engineers also support in the designing aspect of new programs and applications. They participate in systems testing, design computer solutions and write technical specifications.

Software Architect

A software architect will design and create plans for software engineers to follow, much like a architect provides blueprints for engineers to follow. Software architects often work with product managers and customers to provide a link between the company’s business and technical staff. You will need a bachelor’s degree coupled with a master’s degree or work experiences that demonstrates an ability to work collaboratively and design software.

In addition to educational experience, a large part of a software architect’s job lies in the ability to maintain good people skills. While working as a liaison between a company’s staff, you will need to know how to work collaboratively and offer a pleasant face-to-face experience when the time comes to leave the computer screen.

Testimonial of the Week

What I liked about the service is that it had such a comprehensive collection of jobs! I was using a number of sites previously and this took up so much time, but in joining EmploymentCrossing, I was able to stop going from site to site and was able to find everything I needed on EmploymentCrossing.
