Rick Perry, the current Texas Governor, has a plan to increase job growth throughout the nation by tapping into the potential of the energy industry. The plan, which he revealed on Friday, showed the possibility of creating 1.2 million jobs by tapping into energy supplies in the nations that have remained untapped, and by easing the regulations set of gas and oil producers.

Perry says, “I believe on of the quickest ways to create jobs and restore investor confidence in America is to expand energy production in America.” He has plans to reveal other parts of his extensive economic plan to the nation in coming days.

Unfortunately, it seems any plan that a person reveals will have some sort of weakness. Perry’s plan is no different. Critiques say that Perry’s plan may take years to materialize before his growth estimates come to fruition. Associate Executive Director for the Center for Energy Studies at Louisiana State University, David Dismukes made the following statement about Perry’s job plan, “It’s not going to be overnight. These are big capital-oriented investments. People don’t turn on a dime with these investments.”

Despite opposition from critics, Perry still strongly believes in his plan for jobs. He estimates that it will open up approximately 120,000 jobs in Alaska alone. One he ramps up production in the Gulf, it has the possibility to create an additional 230,000 jobs.

Perry has considered the time delay, and insists that he has strategy to increase the creation process if elected. He plans to cut Congress out of the process completely. He will use executive orders to speed along the process, cut out Congress, and get the EPA out of the scene. He states that, “It can be done without being mired in Washington gridlock, because a president has all the authority he needs to roll back intrusive regulations, create energy jobs and make our nation more secure.”

Economy experts estimate that finishing these energy projects and creating this large number of jobs still may take until 2020. However, all of his figures are supported by the American Petroleum Institute. The Institute released a report last month that revealed the energy industry could create up to 1 million jobs, including both indirect and direct energy jobs.

Rayola Dougher, a spokeswoman of the American Petroleum Institute, supports the idea of creating jobs in the energy industry. She says, “I don’t know any other industry that can bring this quantity of jobs to the market. We have the potential that’s not being realized and it could be.”

Because energy companies dig one well after another, the work would last as long as there are areas for the companies to drill. Additionally, if regulations are loosened, the industry could bring a greater stimulus of production as well.
